Use different wall colour combinations for the living room - but make sure that the colours you pick complement not just each other but also the overall colour scheme of the house. 

Experiment not just with colours but also with the wall texture paint designs. Go for a geometric pattern or 3D texture wall. You can also add a brick wall design for a more masculine look. 

Add lights at strategic points like over photo frames or showpieces to create a spotlight effect over the design elements you want to highlight.
